I fell in love with Gul Tiger the minute I first saw it on someone's forum signature, but I didn't know much about it, and given that it's a Grade up, I wasn't sure how easy or cheap it would be to get hold of.
I found one being sold on eBay. It wasn't a bad price, well within my budget. The only problems were a) it was an auction, so the current price could rise, b) The auction time ended while I was at work, and c) The motor was listed as being broken.
I wasn't really that bothered about the broken motor, so I slapped a bid on it, and left it. I was thrilled to find that I'd won it the next day (Along with the Molga Rokurou I'd bidded on from the same seller... I hadn't expected to get either!). Guess a broken motor really puts people off.
Not that the motor was actually broken... When I opened it up I discovered it was missing a gear... Hoiked one from my Battle Cougar, and we're away!
Anyway, onto reviewing the Zoid itself!
I just love the colour scheme on this guy! I don't know why, it just appeals to me. I have a few issues getting to grips with the actual design sometimes though. It makes me wonder how on earth it could run if it was real.
With the battery in, Gul Tiger is able to walk forward, opening and closing its mouth, but, as a Grade Up Zoid, it has an additional motorized feature.
It has an extra gear in its motor box that pokes up through the back armour. To this gear, you can attach one of a number of the different Grade Up units released especially for the Grade Up line. When a unit is fitted onto the gear, Gul Tiger is then able to use its motor to activate a function on the unit. It's pretty nifty if you ask me.
Gul Tiger's manual features consist purely of a rear mounted gun that can swivel 360, and can be raised up and down, plus a removable cockpit.
While he's not a particularly large Zoid, nor packed with features, I really do recommend Gul Tiger. However, unless you absolutely, positively have to own the original Grade Up, I would recommend picking up a Rebirth Century re-release instead. It's easier to find, and even comes specially packaged with a re-released Grade Up unit: Gyro Crafter.
