Z2 Iron Kong holds the record of being the Zoid I have paid the least amount for. I found him at a Boot Sale, in his original box sealed up with masking tape.
Apparently he'd been given to the stall owner exactly as he was being sold, and when she said she was selling him for the princely sum of 50p I was more than willing to take the risk.
So imagine my surprise when I pull him out the box to find him totally complete and in great condition. The only problem he had, was that someone had left batteries in him, which had leaked and corroded the contacts. But, after a little clean up he was right as rain.
When switched on, Iron Kong walks forwards, looking from side to side. The light unit however doesn't have it's own on/off switch. Instead it's triggered by a gear set up on the backpack. As the Zoid walks, the large gear on the back rotates. When the gear gets to a certain point, the lights in the cockpit flash three times accompanied by a strange grating sound, which I can only assume to be Tomy's attempt at a Gorilla call.
Additionally the Iron Kong carries a spring loaded missile launcher with extra missiles. This is probably the only non-Japanese release to have come packaged with the launcher springs. In previous non-Japanese versions the spring was removed. I heard this was due to health and safety regulations, so quite why this one managed to slip under the net I honestly don't know... but I'm not complaining XD
The most interesting feature I've found, is Iron Kong's cockpit. While he's not the only design to have two seats in the same cockpit, he's the first I've seen that has both seats side by side.
I would definitely recommend this guy, but he's rare, so the chances of him showing up again for 50p are very unlikely, but you may still be able to find him for a good price if you're willing to buy prebuilt.
