Review
Being such a big fan of chromed Zoids, I just about melted when I saw Grimm selling this guy on ZoidsPoison. I did get a bit worried about the Saber getting here as he was posted just before British airspace closed due to the ash cloud, but he arrived safe and sound after it re-opened.
My poor photography really doesn't do this guy justice.
His colour scheme is based on the black and red of the original Great Saber, just minus the CP-02.
While the guy looks stunning, the black chrome likes to turn an interesting purpley colour in my usual photography spot, so I got photos in two places so you can get an idea of the colour change.
At first I have to admit, I though the Saber would've looked better with the guns left unchromed, but seeing him in real life has changed my mind on that matter. The silver contrasts quite nicely with the black and red.
The only downside is that the layer of chrome does make the parts thicker, and thus some parts may not fit together correctly, but after a little scraping off of chrome on some pegs it does go together decently enough.
Function wise Saber should, in theory, walk forwards while opening and closing his mouth. I say in theory because I haven't yet gathered the courage to try prying the parts off the stomach, to put a battery in. ^^;
But that doesn't really bother me at all. It's rare that I use the motors anyway, and I'd rather keep the chrome in good condition than risk damaging it to check if the motor works.
Great Saber also came packaged in his very own custom made box. I don't usually photograph the box, but I felt that kind of effort deserved to be shown.
So Chromed Great Saber isn't an official piece, but I'm still glad to be able to call him part of my collection
Eventually I may get a CP-02 for this guy, however, for now I'm happy to have him exactly as he is.
